The Ruin (Cormac Reilly, #1)The Ruin by Dervla McTiernan
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Cormac Reilly has returned to Galway, Ireland after several years. One of his cases, the death of Hilaria Blake has been handed to him as a case to take another look at. Twenty years later he can give it a fresh perspective but he is finding that Hilaria’s case is tied to current case the possible suicide jump of Jack and his sister Maude who went missing is back in town causing a fuss about the handling of Jack’s case. Cormac was told to stay away from Jack’s case but something is not quite right about the cases and Cormac is determined to solve the case before it is too late.

A twisted tale that you think the story is going one way and then it veers to another. Edge of your seat thriller. One thing I thought was intriguing was the dynamic in the DCI’s station, this story explored some of the complexities of the hierarchy and different styles of being a detective.
