Wilder (The Wild Ones #3)Wilder by C.M. Owens
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Kai Wilder saves Piper’s life after a disastrous rescue of a deer goes awry. Piper awakens in a compromising position with Kai and is mortified. The city girl meets one of the Wilder boys who have quite the reputation in Tomahawk. Piper quickly believes the town is full of crazies and she seems to be dating in one of them.

Kai realizes Piper is not in Tomahawk to stay, but a fling is ok and he makes sure the locals know she is his. However, this dating gig is a lot more work then he thought and mixed message lead to confusing feelings on both parts. Could Kai be wrong about Piper being there to stay though?

This was so much fun, each chapter has funny little tips. I thought the characters were a hoot and you get a side romance with Piper’s sister too. This has some laugh out loud moments and definitely one to pick up if looking to put a smile on your face.

When Stars Come Out
Scarlett St. Clair
Publication date: October 31st 2018
Genres: Urban Fantasy, Young Adult

Anora Silby can see the dead and turn spirits into gold coins, two things she would prefer to keep secret as she tries to lead a normal life at her new school. After all, she didn’t change her identity for nothing.

As it turns out, hiding her weirdness is just one of many challenges. By the end of her first day, she’s claimed the soul of a dead girl on campus and lost the coin. Turns out, the coin gives others the ability to steal souls, and when a classmate ends up dead, there’s no mistaking the murder weapon.

Navigating the loss of her Poppa, her mother’s unpredictable behavior, and Roundtable, an anonymous student gossip app threatening to expose her, are hard enough. Now she must find the person who stole her coin before more lives are lost, but that means making herself a target for the Order, an organization that governs the dead on Earth–and they want Anora and her powers for themselves.

EXCERPT:

A woman with blond hair and a pink blazer smiles at me.
“Can I help you?” Her voice sounds robotic, filtered through the round metal intercom.
“I’m new. I don’t have my schedule—”
“Oh! You must be Anora Silby!” She retrieves a folder from her desk and hands it to me via a small opening at the bottom of the glass barrier. “Inside you will find your schedule and your student handbook.”
I open the folder and stare at the materials. My schedule sits on top. I have already zoned in on my first hour: trigonometry…a.k.a. Hell.
“Be sure you are aware of curfew.”
“Oh, I don’t live on campus.”
“Curfew is countywide,” she advises. “No one’s to be outside after midnight.”
“Why?”

It takes the lady a moment to realize I’ve asked her a question. She blinks.
“It’s always been like that. Since the twenties. You know, after the murders.”
“No, actually…I don’t know,” I wave my folder around to remind her I’m the new girl.
“It’s nothing to be worried about,” the lady assures me. “There haven’t been any murders since then. The curfew’s just in place as…a precaution. It’s best if it’s obeyed.”
She says it like a warning, like she thinks I’m one to break the rules. I can understand curfew for campus, but why is it countywide?
“Would you like a guide to help you find your classes?” Her voice brightens, her smile intensifies. It looks fake, and I get the sense I’m not welcome anymore.
“Uh, sure.”
It’ll be nice to have a map of this place in case I get lost trying to avoid the dead. The lady disappears from view and I take a closer look at the pictures on the wall. I’m partly hopeful I’ll see a picture of the girl outside in one of the photos, but I don’t find her. The images are mostly of buildings on campus in their prime. Gold plates beneath the frames indicate the year they were built. My favorite is Rosewater—that sounds calming.
I run my fingers over the cold metal, tracing the name.
“You must be Anora Silby.” The voice is energetic and warm, but it startles me. I tear my hand away from the plate as if I’ve been caught stealing and yelp, twisting to find a boy standing beside me. He has striking blue eyes and sharp features. My gaze drops to his lips, which are initially pulled into a smile until I face him, then it falters.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you.”
I study him for a moment—lively eyes, faint color in his cheeks, and…warmth. He’s definitely alive. I guess I stare too long because he clears his throat and says, “Can I help you find your classes?”
“Oh…um…the lady was getting me a map.”
A smile stretches across his face again, brightening his expression. “I’m your map.” He extends his hand to me, keeping the other in his pocket. “Shy.”
I stare at his hand, confused—did he just call me shy?
“Excuse me?”
He chuckles under his breath. “It’s my name—Shy Savior.”

“Oh.” My cheeks flame and I want to hide. I fumble as I cradle my folder in my arm and reach for his hand. “Anora Silby…er…I guess you knew that.”
“Yeah,” he breathes, and then quickly adds, “But that’s okay. You have a nice name.”
He doesn’t move his gaze from mine as he shakes my hand firmly, and it is a little unnerving, especially since the pigment of his eyes is so concentrated—seriously, he has to be wearing contacts.
“Um, are you going to let go of my hand?”
“Sorry.” He drops my hand and snakes his behind his neck. “It’s just…have we met?”
I laugh. “No. I think I would remember you, Blue Eyes.”
Shy smiles and turns the faintest shade of pink. “You just feel so familiar.”
“I hope I’m familiar in a good way.”
God. I’d have to say that, wouldn’t I?
I’m breaking my second rule: Absolutely no boys.
“Yes.” He narrows those gorgeous eyes and my resolve weakens. “Yes, only in a good way.”
I inhale and hug myself, feeling self-conscious.
“Mr. Savior, I think it’s about time Miss Silby made it to class,” the lady in the pink blazer advises from the counter.
Shy turns and smiles at her. “Yes. Sorry, Mrs. Cole.” He looks at me, clearing his throat. “So, what’s your first class?”
I’m glad the distraction gives me a reason to look away from him because my cheeks are on fire. I open my folder to look at my schedule. I’d seen it a few minutes ago but now, I can’t remember anything.
“Um, Mr. Val, trig … in Walcourt?”
Shy laughs.
“What?” I lean away to get a good look at his face, but he just shakes his head, eyes focused on my schedule.
“Nothing—what’s your locker number?”
Forty-four.

Shy directs me out of the lobby, down a hallway flanked with a large trophy case and a couple bulletin boards covered with flyers for homecoming.

“The lockers, dorms, and cafeteria are all located here in Emerson,” he explains. “It’s a little inconvenient, but you just have to make sure you have everything you need for your first four classes before lunch,” he pauses and nods to my locker, then the one next to it. “That one’s mine.”

I smile at him and it feels like I’m falling into a trap. “I guess I’ll see more of you, then?”
“Yeah.” He grins, showing his teeth, and runs a hand through his blond hair. I like the way his eyes crinkle at the sides when he smiles, all things I shouldn’t notice about him, considering my rules. “Yeah, you will.”

EXCERPT:

A creak of floorboards. Violet opened her eyes just in time to see a woman lunge. She was wearing a white lace nightie, offset slightly by the gaping wound in her stomach. Violet held out her arms, pushing back with all her strength. She barely had any left, but it was just enough to keep the zombie at bay. The woman’s eyes were almost white, and her teeth snapped in Violet’s face. Though she had no idea what caused this or why it was happening, she knew this thing wanted to kill her.

Her arms were hurting, but she continued to fight. The zombie moved her head suddenly, sinking her teeth into Violet’s left arm, just below the elbow. She screamed as teeth tore through her skin.

It was worse than any pain she’d ever experienced—sharp and brutal. She kicked out, catching the woman in the stomach and pushing her back. Violet ran, clutching her bleeding arm against her chest. She had no idea where the back door was, so she ran up the stairs. When she saw the bathroom up ahead, she threw herself inside.

The door slammed shut, and Violet saw a man click the lock into place as she dropped onto the floor by the sink. He was normal, not dead like the others. There was a hammering at the wood, rattling the frame. The man grabbed a towel, hurriedly wrapping Violet’s arm. She wanted to thank him, but her eyes felt heavy. Within seconds, everything was black.

Breaking Josephine
Brooke Stanton
Publication date: November 1st 2018
Genres: Adult, Historical, Romance

From an award winning and #1 bestselling author comes a “HOT, sexy, and sinfully delicious historical romance!”

Widower Jack Harrington needs a young man to work on his farm, what he gets is eighteen-year-old Josephine Taylor—a spirited young woman from Manhattan. Stubborn and willful, Jo tests Jack’s limits. But soon the struggle between them awakens a passion neither can resist. Giving in to temptation could mean the ruin of Jo socially and the destruction of Jack’s carefully guarded heart. Do they have the courage to fight against the restraints of society and fall into the intoxicating embrace of love…

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / iBooks / Kobo

—

EXCERPT:

Jack closed his eyes and took in a long slow breath. But his attempt to regain control failed. In a swift movement, his hands circled under Jo’s thighs and lifted her up, her legs wrapping around his waist.

One of his hands cupped her buttocks, holding her up, while his other sailed up her spine and over her neck. Their lips were a breath apart, and for a moment they stayed like that, breathing each other’s air.

Their heartbeats galloped together under the thin fabric of their clothes, and Jo didn’t know where hers stopped and his began. Her eyelids grew heavy, and she shivered at the temptation that was offered up in his sweet lips so close to hers. How quickly she forgot the inappropriateness of what their kisses had led to in the past. But her mind was a fog of want and desire, and propriety was as far off as the moon.

Her tongue flicked out, grazing his lip, and it was all the encouragement Jack needed. His mouth captured hers, firm and moist, and she sighed. Her tongue moved in an urgent rhythm against the velvety meal he offered up in his sweet mouth.

She felt him harden under his trousers, and Jo’s hands twitched, instinctively wanting to draw his desire out. Jack gripped her under her thighs and carried her across the barn, pressing her against the wall. Confidence lurched in Jo and she slid her legs down to stand.

She satisfied her twitching hands and placed them on top of the bulge that strained the fabric of his trousers. He groaned in her mouth, and the encouragement of his response thrust her desire forward.

Pierced
J.A. Huss & Johnathan McClain
(Tall, Dark, and Handsome #2 (Sexpert #2))
Publication date: October 30th 2018
Genres: Adult, Comedy, Romance

MYRTLE
I’m a just an erotic woman who likes control.
And edgy sex.
And hard men.
At the same time.
So starting an outreach class at the TDH community center to teach other women how to put the dom in dominatrix was inevitable. Even if I was only doing it to use my boss, Pierce, as my submissive example and pay him back for humiliating me in front of the whole world last summer.

PIERCE
I regret what I did to Myrtle. She’s the best assistant I’ve ever had and I’ll play along—for now—because I want to make things right. But… come on. Me? A submissive? Ha. Myrtle Rothschild might have the upper hand at the moment… but I’m bringing my A-game. I’m gonna take back control.

She can wear her hot, thigh-high latex boots. She can crack that whip all she wants. Hell, I’ll even let her leave marks.

But I’m about to school Ms. Rothschild in the art of who’s the boss.
And she’s about to get Pierce-d.

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / iBooks / Kobo

—

EXCERPT:

MYRTLE

“Knock, knock?”

I look up from my computer and see Pierce, standing in the doorway of my office.

“Can I come in?” he asks.

“You’re the boss,” I huff.

He smiles. Tightly. Like he’s unsure how to proceed.

It’s just all so different.

“Uh… so how’s things?’

“Things?” I ask, raising one perfect eyebrow. “Do you have a specific example of said things?”

“Well, no,” he says, coming inside to take a seat in front of my desk. “Nothing specific. Just… wondering if you have time for a special project.”

We both look at my desk. Which doesn’t have a single file on it. Not even one sheet of paper. My Post-Its pad is still crisp and every pencil in my little pencil can is sharp. I think it’s pretty obvious that I do nothing in here all day.

But I’m still angry at him. So if he thinks I’m gonna be the first to admit I don’t actually have a job to do and I’m just wasting corporate money, he’s mistaken.

“I’m pretty busy,” I say.

“Yeah,” he says, sighing. “I know. And I don’t want to take advantage or anything, but I could use your help.”

I have my reading glasses on, so I do that head-tilt thing where you look down your nose at someone. “With what?”

He looks around. Plucks a pencil out of the pencil jar. Taps it to his head as he thinks.

He doesn’t have a project for me. He just wanted to come in here and feel me out.

We both know this.

But then he gets an idea. I swear I can see the little light bulb go off in his head. “The Halloween party.”

“What about it?”

“We… need… well…”

“Pierce?”

“What?”

“You don’t have a project for me. And I don’t even have a job here.”

“Of course you do! You’re the VP—”

“Of social media, I know. The little plaque outside my office says so. But we both know there’s no social media department. Not to mention, I’m not even on social media and have no idea how it even works.”

“You don’t have socials? How did I not know that?”

“Well, you did think I was the Sexpert. So I’m just going to assume you don’t actually know anything about me.”

“How can you still be pissed at me? It’s been months! I gave you a promotion, and an office, and—”

“Again,” I say, putting up a hand to cut him off, “I do realize all that. And once again, it’s all meaningless. You don’t even know what a social media department does.”

“It’s not meaningless.” He tugs on his suit coat. “And I’m well-versed in socials. I was Snapchatting just last night.”

“With who?”

“Uh…” He looks over his shoulder, like he needs a second to think, then says, “Valerie. She’s my chat friend now.”

“You know I can tell when you lie, right? Your left eye does this little wink thing every time.”

He huffs, then leans forward in his chair. “How long will you continue to do this?”

“Do what?”

“Punish me.”

I laugh. Stop. Then laugh again. It’s a little bit of a guffaw with a healthy dose of maniacal thrown in for good measure. “This is not me trying to punish you, Pierce. This is me biding my time.”

He lifts up one eyebrow. “Biding your time until… what?”

“Until I have the perfect diabolical plan to pay you back.”

He sits back in his chair, breathes deep. “So that’s what you need? Payback?”

“I was publicly humiliated. A woman doesn’t just get over it, Pierce.”

He winces when I snarl his name. “You hate me.”

“People look at me funny now, you do realize that?”

“Look at you funny how?”

“Like I’m hiding some secret sexual fetish side.”

“Aren’t you?”

“What do you want?”

“I mean, you do come off as… kind of a…”

“A what?”

“You know. Like you’re into the whole Red Room spanking thing, right?”

“Anastasia Steele? You’re comparing me to Anastasia Steele? Please.”

“Well, you wear those tight pencil skirts… and those sexy secretary glasses. Plus, I know you read that smut in here. You don’t even use an eReader. Everyone can see the covers. I used to have little Christian Grey fantasies when you used to look at me. Before… ya know, you decided to hate me.”

I laugh. And it’s not even maniacal. It’s real.

“Why is that funny?”

“My dearest Pierce,” I say, still chuckling, “you are no Christian Grey. If anyone is Mr. Grey in this relationship, it’s me.”

The year is 2007. The architect of the collapse of Soviet Russia, Yorbachev, and his protégé Pushkin’s, international trading conglomerate, Intrasyn, has grown with revenues in billions of dollars. Intrasyn’s members are now in positions of influence in Russia’s, Ukarain’s and Belarussian’s armed forces and the administration.
Brian Turner the chief of NATBAL reviews photographs of an undercover operation covering a safe house of Intrasyn and recognises Zhirnovsy, a key member of Intrasyn; included are reports of the assassinations of the Minister of the Interior of Belarus and the Security Chief of the Ukaraine.
Suspecting a larger conspiracy, he activates Markes a western mole secreted into Russia to investigate.
Markes’s investigation and his visits to Cerkessk which witnessed a horrendous massacre, alerts Intrasyn who assign Dudayev and Yevgany seasoned ex KGB agents to liquidate Markes, and his control Amalrek. Amalrek is killed in a botched kidnapping attempt and Markes with his cover blown, is on the run forcing Brian to activate another of his moles, Zonta.
Markes with Zonta’s help enters the island headquarters of Intrasyn, hacks the mainframe and discovers the plan to assassinate the President’s of the USA, Belarus, Russia and Ukrain at the signing of a Treaty at Kiev, and the more sinister plot to invade Europe.
Can Markes and Zonta prevent the assassinations of the Presidents and expose Intrasyn’s plans to dominate the world ?
