REVIEW Love at The BluebirdLove at The Bluebird by Aurora Rose Reynolds
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Gavin McNeer has a hit song and his career is taking off and so are the fans. He isn’t interested in any of them but when he sees Alyson Dawson at an event at the Bluebird Cafe he is instantly smitten. The more he spends time with Aly the more he knows she is his one, but what happens when a curve ball threatens to tear them apart?

Loved this, very different then the other books that these authors have written. The build up is intense and you never have a wavering doubt about the chemistry. This is a book to pick up and grab a blanket, cup of coffee and settle in for the day. Excellent.

EXCERPT:

Carter Wilson closed his eyes and groaned as he came in the mouth of the woman who was busy blowing him. His fingers clenched in her perfectly-styled hair, messing it up. He knew it would likely give away what they’d been up to, but he didn’t care.

A hiss of air left him when she finally let go of his pleasantly spent cock. The blonde sat back on her expensive Jimmy Choo heels and licked her lips greedily as she gazed up at him, her blue eyes sultry with lust and her nipples hard where her breasts showed in her gaping cleavage.

Carter reluctantly tucked his dick back in his tuxedo trousers.

If he’d had a condom on him, he would have pulled her to her feet, yanked up her thousand-dollar Dolce & Gabbana dress, and fucked her against the wall of the art gallery’s restroom stall until she screamed in pleasure.

He’d unfortunately used the last rubber in his wallet in his trailer yesterday, after he finished shooting what he hoped would be his next Hollywood blockbuster movie in New York. He’d known that the assistant he’d been given by the studio had had the hots for him all along, but Carter never liked mixing business with pleasure, not after the unpleasant incident that had nearly ended his movie career prematurely. So he’d waited until the last day of filming to give her a parting gift, which was his dick in her mouth and her hungry pussy.

Most people called him a bastard and a serial womanizer, a reputation that was only rendered more infamous by the paparazzi who constantly tailed him. Carter didn’t mind. He knew the career he’d chosen meant sacrificing his privacy and, as far as he was concerned, his conscience was clear; he’d never made false promises to the women he’d slept with, always used protection, and had been upfront about never wanting to be in a serious relationship.

There were only two aspects of his life that Carter protected jealously: his family and his hidden bisexuality. The first had been surprisingly easy to keep under wraps, since his only living relative had left the small town they’d grown up in some years back and was now halfway across the world.

As for the second, although there were plenty of gay actors who’d come out in the business in the last few decades, Carter knew his status as an action hero and the opportunities that might come his way in the future might be affected if he were to reveal like he liked to fuck men as much as he liked fucking women.

On the occasions when he felt like dick more than pussy, Carter visited an exclusive club in L.A. where all employees and guests were made to sign non-disclosure agreements. There, he had his pick of the male clientele who habitually called upon the club to satisfy their own secret desires. Carter had been hesitant to join up at first. But after hearing the club rules dictated all visitors wear close-fitting carnival masks to conceal their identities and that there were private suites where guests could indulge in their wildest sexual fantasies, he’d signed on the dotted line and never regretted it since.

“I think it’s about time we got back out there, don’t you?” Carter told the blonde with a relaxed grim.

She hesitated before returning his smile with a lingering look of regret. Carter knew she would brag to her closest friends about tonight. It wasn’t everyday she got to suck the cock of a A-list Hollywood star while her husband was entertaining their guests fifty feet away.

Carter waited a couple of minutes after she vacated the restroom before stepping out into the service corridor at the rear of the art gallery. He stilled when he saw the woman leaning a hip against the wall in the shadows, her arms crossed rigidly across her body.

Izzy Batista’s green eyes were dark with exasperation and there was a distinctly unhappy moue on her pretty face. “Please tell me you didn’t just fuck the gallery owner’s wife?”

Carter’s lips tilted in a teasing smirk. “It depends on your definition of fuck.”

Izzy swore. “For Christ’s sake Carter, can’t you keep it in your pants for one goddamn night?!”

Carter strolled up to her and rested his shoulder casually against the wall, mimicking her pose.

“Normally, I would say yes,” he drawled in a sarcastic tone. “But, you see, a little mouse with brown hair and green eyes blackmailed me into coming here and I just had to, you know, blow off some steam.”

Izzy rolled her eyes. “It’s only for a couple of hours. Besides, your agent said you didn’t have anything lined up for tonight.”

Carter frowned. “I did have something lined up. It was called an evening spent relaxing in my own home for the first time in three months.”

Izzy gasped and raised a hand to her lips, an expression of mock horror painted across her face. “OMG! Is this the first sign that Carter Wilson is getting old? Would you like me to get you slippers and a hot cocoa kit for Christmas?”

“Ha-ha, very funny,” Carter muttered.

Izzy grinned and tucked her arm through his elbow. “Now, why don’t you be a good blackmail victim and come along peacefully. We’re about to do the big reveal.”

Carter grunted and allowed her to guide him to the main gallery area.

Izzy was the younger sister of Wyatt Batista, one of Carter’s closest childhood friends from his hometown of Twilight Falls. Together with Tristan Hart, Hunter Thomson, Drake Jackson, Miles Martinez, and Alex Hancock, they’d formed the “Terrible Seven”, a name that had struck dread in the heart of parents, teachers, and law enforcement for the decade and a half they’d grown up together in the quaint tourist town in the San Bernardino Mountains.

It was Izzy who’d sneaked in the boy’s locker room when Carter and the others were in high school and taken the infamous picture of his naked butt, which she had threatened to use to blackmail him on many an occasion since.

Though Carter knew it was in jest, he still worried about Izzy. The woman was the devil incarnate when it came to poking fun at her friends, and Carter wouldn’t put it past her to one day find a picture of his sixteen-year-old ass plastered over a billboard in L.A.

A dull murmur of voices reached them as they turned a corner and entered the gallery. Tonight was the opening night of Finn West’s first art exhibition in over three years and the whole town was buzzing with the return of the famous artist.

Although Carter had reluctantly agreed to headline the guest list, he had to admit to being more than a little intrigued once Izzy explained the circumstances behind her request.

It turned out Finn was Alex Hancock’s husband of a few months.

Carter’s gaze found the happy couple where they stood with the art gallery owner next the central piece of the exhibition, which still lay hidden beneath a white sheet. Finn had seemed tense when Carter had met him on the red carpet at the beginning of the evening. He now looked like a totally different person and could hardly keep his eyes, and his hands, off the man next to him.

A twinge of jealousy stabbed through Carter as he observed Alex’s radiant expression. It was evident to anyone in the room that the pair were very much in love. He wondered if he would ever find that kind of connection one day, or if he was doomed to a life of brief sexual encounters.

Carter had yet to meet anyone who had held his sexual and intellectual interest long enough for him to consider them as a potential life partner. The women who entered his life seemed more interested in having a movie star as a boyfriend than in who he was as a person, while the men were one-night stands whose faces he wouldn’t recognize if he passed them on the street.

He smiled blankly at the art gallery’s owner’s wife as he walked past the couple and let Izzy lead him to Finn and Alex’s side. Alex greeted him with a hug and a hearty pat on the back and Carter found himself feeling genuinely happy for his friend as he embraced him. They’d all been through some rough times together before he and Alex left Twilight Falls and it was great to see Alex’s eyes devoid of the guilt he’d carried for so many years.

The central piece of the exhibition was finally revealed to wild applause. Carter took his leave an hour later and headed out of the back door to the parking lot. He’d just climbed inside his Maserati when his cell started ringing. He took the phone out of his pocket and stared at the screen.

It was an international number. One he didn’t recognize.

The first tendril of dread pooled inside Carter as he gazed at it. He hesitated before taking the call. “Hello?”

“Is that Mr. Wilson? Mr. Carter Wilson?” a woman said in a heavy French accent. “The next of kin of Louise Payton?”

Carter’s stomach clenched in fear. “Yes, it is,” he finally managed, mouth so dry he was surprised he didn’t croak.

“I’m so sorry, Mr. Wilson,” the woman continued in a voice filled with compassion, “I’m afraid there has been a terrible accident.”

A buzzing noise filled Carter’s ears. The words the woman was saying reached him dimly, every syllable a knife that stabbed into his heart.

In that moment, he knew his life would never be the same again.

EXCERPT:

“Sit,” I hiss.

He stares me down with a hint of a challenge in his eyes, then he sits back down. “You fucking know I’ll do my job.”

“Good,” I say with finality in my voice. “Tonight, we have work to do.” I nod to Ivan who knows what it’s about. I’m about to test just how unflinchingly loyal my guys are. They don’t know of Roberto’s affairs, only Ivan does, and in a moment he’ll relay my order to them to take out the weasel. Roberto’s been working with us for fifteen years. They know him well, they know his wife and kids, they’ve killed and partied with this guy. Now they’re gonna do him in.

I stand and pull the girl up by her nape until she’s on her feet. Tucking my cock back in my pants, I steer her toward the glass double doors. In the corner of my eye, I see Ivan stand and pull out his gun, striding over to Roberto, putting it to his head.

“Let’s walk,” he says.

The pleading begins. Matteo, Christian and Eric dart up, as does the rest of the crowd. I smirk as I push the girl before me, reveling in the sounds of chaos. My forte. Roberto is in for a world of hurt tonight and just thinking about it makes me rock hard. Ivan will inform me who hesitated and who didn’t.

Steering the girl into my bedroom, I slam the door closed and shove my hand between her legs, push her panties to the side and thrust my fingers up her cunt. She twitches from the rough intrusion and I haven’t even begun yet.

“Knees hurt?”

“No, sir, I’m good,” she gasps.

I glance down at the flattened skin over her kneecaps. Her dark hue doesn’t allow the redness to show. “Know what?” I pull out and tear her panties off her. “I hate liars. Bend over.”

Breathing erratically, she turns and obeys, presenting her mouthwatering round butt. I smack it. Hard. She stumbles forward.

“Don’t fucking move,” I growl. “Hands on the floor.” I take a step closer and smack her again, making her rock forward yet another step.

She whimpers. “I can’t keep my balance, sir.” She steadies herself, spreading her legs as she puts her palms to the floor.

Her cunt is hairless and too enticing not to explore further. I slide my fingers along her slit, back and forth, rubbing against her clit, then a little rougher in between her folds. Like a bitch in heat, she begins to rock against my hand, getting wetter by the second. I push my fingers inside her, thrusting, a thumb on her increasingly swollen nub. Then I pull out and slap her right across her pussy, making her scream and shoot forward.

I snap open my belt and pull down my zipper. “Bend over the edge of the bed.”

She darts around, her eyes huge and confused, a single tear trickling down her cheek. “Sir, I—”

“This is what I pay you to do. Get on the fucking bed. Now.”

I’m rock hard, stroking my cock in my hand. Her eyes dart between my face and my thick length, then her gaze turns distant, as if she gives up all hope. She turns slowly and walks up to the bed, spreading her legs as she falls forward clutching the comforter.

I don’t like that she gives up already. I want to pull them to the edge of despair, I want them to plead and weep. But I want the first fucking part to last a little longer than this. Glancing over at the curtain that covers my rack of canes and whips, I already know how I’ll pull her right back to the present.

Pulling off my belt, loop by loop, I then wrap it around my fist and whip it right over her beautiful ass. She’ll plead. And when she does, I’ll fuck her. Hard.

In my basement, at this very moment, someone else is pleading. This girl will leave the building, a hefty sum in her bank account, probably bleeding, definitely crying, but alive. Roberto won’t be as lucky.

I’m a stay at home mom that loves to read. Some of my favorite titles are Pride and Prejudice, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Horatio Hornblower. I started writing when I was trying to come up with suggestions on ways I could help bring in some extra money. I came up with the idea that I could donate plasma because you could earn an extra $500/month. My husband responded with, “No. Find something else. Write a blog. Write a book.” I didn’t think I had anything to share on blog that a thousand other mothers hadn’t already thought of. I decided to take his challenge seriously and sat down to write my first book, Jack. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed writing. From there, the stories continued to flow and I haven’t been able to stop. I hope my readers enjoy my books as much as I enjoy writing them. Between reading, writing, and taking care of three small kids, my days are quite full.

EXCERPT:

1857, England

It was the scream that woke him. The boy bolted upright in the four-poster bed, the sheets crumpling to his waist. He blinked before looking dazedly around his bedroom, the remains of his nightmare fading to wisps of darkness in the night. Moonlight washed through the leaded windows of the Victorian mansion in bright beams, illuminating the empty chamber around him.

For one wild moment, the boy wondered if the sound had been part of the terrible dream he’d been having. The same dream he’d experienced every night for the past month. The one where monsters dwelled.

The scream came again. This time, it spoke of unspeakable pain and terror.

A whimper left the boy’s lips when he recognized his mother’s tortured voice.

There was no longer any doubt in his mind. This, whatever was transpiring on this cold winter’s night, was no dream.

Another voice joined his mother’s desperate cries.

The boy’s eyes widened as his father’s horrified yells echoed down the west wing hallway.

He scrambled out of bed and stood frozen for a moment, the cold floorboards beneath his feet sapping away what little warmth remained in his body. His gaze found the poker by the fireplace.

The dying embers in the hearth painted a macabre red glow across the metal.

The boy walked over on trembling legs and closed his hand around the handle, his pulse racing with fear. More voices reached him.

His sisters were sobbing and begging, their tones rising with every desperate word they uttered, their panic so thick it paralyzed him once more. They stopped abruptly, their pleas cut off by a grisly, fleshy sound.

Deathly silence fell upon the mansion. The boy waited, mouth dry and heart pounding so fast he feared it would leap from his chest.

The noise that came next caused his bladder to loosen. Warm wetness pooled between his legs as an inhuman shriek tore through his home.

It was the same sound he’d heard the monsters in his nightmares make.

A heavy footfall made the floor tremble. Something was coming down the hallway toward his room. Something big. Something that scratched the wood with every wicked step.

A vile stench tickled the boy’s nostrils.

A shadow appeared across the gap beneath his bedroom door. The floorboards dipped slightly as the monster stopped outside.

The boy took a step back. A gasp whooshed out of him as he slipped on his own urine and landed heavily on his backside.

A scraping noise danced across the outside of the door, the sound setting the boy’s teeth on edge even as he scrambled desperately to his feet.

“Fie, foh, and fum,” the monster growled, “I smell the blood of an Englishman.”

Tears overflowed the boy’s eyes and ran down his icy cheeks. He swallowed the sobs rising in his chest.

His family was dead. He knew this without question.

And the monster who had murdered them, the one from his darkest nightmares, the one now standing outside his room, was going to kill him too. Terror and despair swamped him, a heavy mantle that weighed his small body down. His shoulders sagged. His fingers loosened around the poker.

There was no point fighting his fate.

Thump.

The boy blinked, the monster temporarily forgotten. Before he could fathom the eerie throbbing he’d just sensed inside the very marrow of his soul, the bedroom door exploded inward in a cloud of deadly shards and splinters. A cry left him, unbidden.

The monster appeared through the falling debris, reeking of death and rotting flesh. It was over six feet tall, with a hulking physique, its hands and feet tipped by wicked, blood-soaked talons. Its eyes were black but for their yellow centers.

The boy registered the gore and gristle coating the monster’s lower face and realized he was looking at what remained of his parents and sisters. Rage erupted inside of him then, so sudden and so fierce he almost gasped with the force of it.

Thump-thump.

There was no time to explore the heavy beat that was matching his own frantic heart or the uncanny warmth rising from the depths of his body. The boy widened his stance and gripped the poker in white-knuckled fists, the fury he was experiencing echoed by something inside him. Something that he knew instinctively was not of this world.

Gone was the crippling fear that had gripped him a moment past. In its place was deadly determination.

Thump-thump. Thump-thump.

Heat bloomed on the boy’s right palm. Though he caught a faint glow between his fingers out the corner of his eye, he did not dare look away from the monster who had just stepped inside his room.

To do so would be to invite instant death.

The boy and the monster stared at one another for a frozen moment in time. In the monster’s obsidian eyes, the boy detected surprise and a hint of interest. The monster smiled, its features twisting in a ghastly grimace of loathing and hunger. It rushed toward the boy, its movements so swift he almost missed its charge.

White light filled the room.

Synopsis

Once upon a time a young girl dreamed of a handsome prince who would rescue her from her grandmother’s prison and make all her dreams come true.

But then Linnea grew up, left her past and that godforsaken town behind. She rescued herself because real life is no fairy tale—or is it?

One day, just like an alpha hero from one of the tattered paperbacks she’d kept hidden beneath her bed, he appeared at her door. Kyan. Long dark hair, muscles and tattoos, eyes as blue as the summer sky…

Her prince.

With him, she felt things she never even imagined. He took her places she never dared to go. Behind the red door, where nothing was forbidden and her pleasure was everything.

Perhaps her life was a fairy tale after all. She was surrounded by a royal family of fierce Irish Vikings, a court jester, and even merry minstrels—the hot rock stars of Venery.

And she was his princess.

But every story has its villains. An evil queen. A mad king. A she-devil with eyes like a cat.

Linnea had forgotten that before the happily-ever-after, storybook tales are often sick and twisted.

She should have paid closer attention.

Excerpt

On this early summer night, Linnea’s courtyard seemed almost magical, illuminated only by dancing candlelight and the market lights strung overhead from the dogwood, with its white bracts giving off a Milky Way effect. Linnea hit the igniter button on the grill and sat on the chaise end of the outdoor sofa. She fluffed the colorful mismatched pillows and rearranged the throws while she waited for the grill to heat up. Chloe must have changed the music because some sultry New Age shit was wafting from the speakers.

Linnea laughed softly, thinking that her little courtyard looked idyllic enough for a romantic soiree when it was just a girls’ night in with her best friend. She thought of Kyan and sighed.

Not today.

Maybe someday.

Chattering voices broke Linnea from her thoughts. She stood and peeked into the kitchen, but Chloe wasn’t there. Just as Linnea spun around, Chloe stepped into the courtyard from the open French doors in the living room. Linnea gasped. Trailing behind Chloe were Jesse, Dillon, and then Kyan, as Linnea stood dumbstruck. They filed past her with boxes and bags, each of them stopping to kiss her on the cheek, before continuing on through the opposite set of French doors into the kitchen.

Chloe didn’t look surprised. At all. She wore a smug smirk on her face and all of a sudden the candles and the New Age shit coming from the speakers made perfect sense.

Maybe someday was today after all.

Taking a deep breath to gather her wits, Linnea followed them into the kitchen. Smiling at the guys, she sidled over to Chloe who was bent over, rummaging in the refrigerator. She couldn’t help but notice Jesse checking out her friend’s ass as he unpacked bottles of champagne and beer from the box he carried in. If he was trying to be discreet, he wasn’t doing a very good job.

Linnea leaned into the fridge next to Chloe and spoke in a hushed voice. “I hope you’re ordering pizza because we don’t have enough food for three hungry men that you must have forgotten to tell me were joining us for girls’ night!”

Chloe giggled. “I ordered the groceries, didn’t I?” She proceeded to pile containers of steaks and lobster tails in Linnea’s arms.

As soon as Linnea backed away from the fridge Dillon claimed the space, placing desserts they brought from the restaurant onto the now-empty shelf. “I brought you your favorite.” Dillon winked at her and planted a lingering kiss at the corner of her mouth.

What in the actual fuck?

Kyan was pouring bags of ice into a galvanized metal tub. He looked her way with those striking eyes of his and smiled, a comfortable smile as if he had been in her kitchen a million times, instead of just once the night before. Had that really only been yesterday?

“C’mon, beautiful.” Kyan nudged her towards the courtyard carrying the tub of ice, his biceps bulging.

Linnea preceded him outside. Her arms laden with the food to be cooked, she went directly to the grill to start the steaks. She could feel his eyes on her. She didn’t have to turn around to know he was standing right behind her.

“Here, babe, let me.” Kyan took the tongs from her hand. “I’m the master…” Linnea parted her lips to speak, but before she could utter a word he leaned over and swiftly kissed her lips. “… of the grill.” She brought her fingers to her mouth and he gave her that comfortable smile again, then turned back to the grill to put the steaks on.

“I’ll go get the plates and stuff.”

As she turned away Kyan reached for her and captured her wrist, spinning her into him. Their bodies were flush against each other. Her softness melded onto his firm muscle. His fingers encircled her wrist, her hand flat on his chest. She could feel his heart beating and the warmth emanating from his skin into hers through the thin deep V-neck tee he wore. With every inhale, she breathed him in.

He smelled like sin. Delicious sin.

She stared at her hand on his chest, at his ink just visible beneath the almost-transparent fabric. He didn’t look like the Kyan at work. He looked like a bad-boy rock star you’d see on the cover of a romance novel. Sexy. Dangerous. Irresistible. And that’s what she was afraid of.

Kyan rubbed the skin of her inner wrist with his thumb. “Don’t be long. I need you. Right. Back. Here.”

Heat spread throughout her body. Linnea had to be flushing from head to toe. She didn’t trust herself to speak, so she nodded and he let her go.

Dillon and Jesse were putting the champagne and beer on ice in the metal tub that Kyan had filled as she went back into the house. Chloe was organizing items from the kitchen to be brought outside. She took one look at Linnea and poured her a glass of champagne from an open bottle on the counter.

“Relax and have some fun, Linn. Remember?”

In one go she drank it down.

Let life happen.

Synopsis

Dating the Hot Athlete? Yeah, Been There, Done That…

Braxton Smith.

Cessna University’s baseball captain.

Naturally talented.

Sinfully gorgeous.

And exudes enough arrogance to fill a stadium.

That same cocky attitude is what landed him in my anonymous gossip column.

Believe me, I, Cara Gonzalez, don’t want anything to do with him.

But he’s everywhere.

In my class.

In my dorm.

In my mind.

I left this type of drama back home.

Transferring to Cessna University is my chance for a redo.

And regardless of his rock-hard abs and panty-dropping smile,

Arguing with an athlete isn’t one of my goals.

My instincts betray me, though.

This attraction feels different.

Stronger.

I have no choice but to stand my ground.

Because this time, I’m afraid I’ll not only be hurt.

I’ll end up gutted.

Excerpt

“You know who this jersey belongs to?”

I feign ignorance as his icy-blue eyes stare into mine, the slight hesitation in his answer not helping my nerves.
“Of course. He’s actually playing against the Mets right now.”

My gaze flicks to the nearest television, and I can’t stop the small smile forming. A sense of pride bubbles inside me. It happens every single time I catch a glimpse of my brother playing. I’m so proud of what he has accomplished. The words fumble from my mouth before I can stop them. “He’s winning.”

“Yeah, but not for long. The Giants will edge them out for the wild card spots.” The sureness to his statement jumbles my thoughts, and the slight dimple in his right cheek catches me off guard. He steps closer, and I’m suddenly engulfed with everything Braxton. His scent. His empowering size.

“Is that so?” I step back, trying to break this connection, but he matches the movement. Warmth courses through me as I try to harden my insides. I have to fight this attraction. I can’t afford not to.

“It is. You know what else?”

The tiny gap between us disappears as he closes the space. I take another step back but come to a halt when my backside stops flush against the wall. I feel caged by my brother’s paraphernalia to my left and Braxton’s body standing in front of me.

“What?” My words come out breathier than I’d like, and I force myself to look away. This need to cave to the desire coursing through my hormone-riddled veins battles against my will to stave off any baseball player’s advance.

A beat of silence passes. Then he grazes his finger across my chin and lifts my face until I see nothing but the curiosity and intrigue eclipsing the blues of his eyes. He searches my face, and I can hardly breathe, reduced to a pool of need. One that needs squished before it blossoms into a full-out want. Although, it may be too late.

“What are you afraid of?”

Our stare locks and holds. He has no idea how loaded the question is, but he also has no inclination about what his presence does to me. No other guy, especially my ex, has ever looked past my good looks. No one takes me seriously. But the way Braxton stares, I feel like he’s trying to catch a glimpse of my soul.

“Nothing.” Everything.

Braxton remains quiet, studying me. The air between us charges with uncertainty and unspoken words. Those rough, calloused fingers slide across my chin and brush a loose strand of hair out of the way. “You’re an intricate puzzle, Pole Girl. Mark my words, I will figure you out.”
