She Loves Me, She Loves Me Not (The American Soldier Collection #8)She Loves Me, She Loves Me Not by Dixie Lynn Dwyer

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

After being attacked by a man she had dated, Ellie Morison is still trying to overcome the trauma and the one thing she knows for sure, she is not ready to date. With a new account and her career taking off, Ellie really doesn’t have he time to invest in a relationship even if she wanted to try.

When Ellie sticks up for Hunter Lawson though everything changes. Hunter an amputee, doesn’t need the pity from Ellie, except she doesn’t seem to see him any differently. Hunter’s brothers Justice, Mace, and Seno are instantly attracted to Ellie, but are unsure if she will be willing to accept all four of them, especially when she seems to be hiding something about her past.

When Ellie decides she is wanting a chance to find happiness and take a chance on Justice, Hunter, Mace and Seno she finds her attacker is back and not wanting to let her go.

I liked this one a lot, Hunter was a really intriguing character who fears rejection and from a disastrous past relationship is bitter and lashing out. Ellie is a survivor, I liked that all the men were quite different and it took time to cultivate their relationship. Very good read.

Wild Hearts (Blood Moon Legacy #1)Wild Hearts by Rhea Regale

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

When Shyla Smith arrives in Hood River to close up her grandfathers estate, it is met with more confusion. Shyla had never physically met him and although he wrote a few letters explaining her heritage, it was to difficult to believe.

When Shyla meets Coal Demmering and Jacy Roddery who were friends of her grandfather, Shyla’s life turns completely upside down. One minute she is single and heading back to New York, the next she finds out she is a rare white wolf and Coal and Jacy are her mates. With the threat still out there to destroy what looks like the last white wolf alive, Jacy and Coal are intent on protecting Shyla. Shyla however is feeling too much too soon and isn’t sure if she is willing to move to Hood River and follow her destiny.

This was overall good, 3.75 but it was so rushed it was a little hard to grasp the rampant feelings running around Shyla. I would be interested in reading more of the series though.

A Humble Heart (Hollywood Hearts, #1)A Humble Heart by R.L. Mathewson

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Dana knew that her life had come to a impasse, an unhappy marriage and two beautiful children who need unconditional love. When her novel is accepted she sees this as the opportunity she has been waiting for, she moves to California and begins a new life filled with love and acceptance. Now she has hit the big time but she still remains the tenderhearted woman she always has been and raises her children with a normalcy that is rare in Hollywood.

Hot Hollywood star Edward can’t believe he has the script for his favorite book in front of him, what’s better he has just signed on to play the lead in the movie. Edward is enchanted the moment he meets Dana, she is down to earth and beautiful and doesn’t seem the least bit interested in letting fame take over her life. If his crush wasn’t apparent enough, the minute he sees her with her children he knows she is the one. Now he has to figure out how to ask her out in order to make her a permanant fixture in his life.

This was a charming read, it does not have the humor the Neighbor series does but it still is a compelling read. It was kind of like you were looking through a window of someones life and watching Dana get swept off her feet.

Content Warning: contains adult language and explicit sex

~Excerpt~

“I like it here…with you…in the kitchen.” His words were enunciated slowly as she gripped the edge of the sink, pressing her back into the hardness…it was no good, she couldn’t go back any further.

“Uh-huh.” Daisy cleared her throat, trying to eradicate the huskiness present every time she’d spoken to him that morning.

Micah’s eyes narrowed. “What’s wrong, Daisy?”

“Nothing.” She licked her lips.

“Yes, there is. Are you regretting last night?”

She swallowed, but her throat was bone dry. “Last night.” She sucked in a breath as he stood in front of her and his hands landed on either side of her with a thud, coming to rest on the countertop.

“Have you got a boyfriend?”

She shook her head. “No.”

“Keep it that way.”

“Pardon me.”

“Don’t go looking for one…we have unfinished business.”

She lifted her hands and pushed at his hard chest, which of course was a complete waste of time. “Now look here, you can’t tell me what to do.”

“Yes, I can.” He kissed her hard, short, and succinct, and the power behind it made her knees tremble.

“No, you can’t. If I want to go out and find a man, I will.” She spoke defiantly with her chin held high, but it was lost in the fact that her chin only came up to his chest, and she had to strain further to look him in the eye. Her fingers tingled at the heat emanating from him. The smooth cotton of his shirt was soft to the touch, and his heartbeat was strong as the beat echoed against her fingertips.

“I don’t think so.”

“Excuse me.” She pulled her head back and looked at him.

“Don’t start thinking that you can bed someone else.”

Her cheeks heated as she tried to push him away. “What the hell? You can’t tell me who I can go to bed with…you hardly know me, and you most certainly don’t have the right.”

“After last night…you do want me, and if I hadn’t stopped we would have been in that bed together. I would’ve made you forget whatever it is that has made you lose your confidence. You’re one of the sexiest, most beautiful women I’ve ever met, and when I do what I have to…I’m going to show you exactly how much I really want you.”

“That’s just arrogant.”

His smile was slow and sexy, and she was pretty sure that had he not been holding her up she would’ve glided to the floor in a stream of unbridled lust. His hardness was pressed against her stomach.

“Arrogant?” He shook his head. “No, that’s not justifying the way I feel, but I’m confident you feel the same way.”

“You think so, huh?” When she’d offered him a bed last night he’d refused.

He kissed her again, a little slower this time. Their kisses were hotter than a sauna on a cold day. She could hear the baby in the background, but it was as if she was a distant voice.

He parted from her just enough to speak and she watched his lips move. They were sexy, and she had to push herself to listen to what he was saying.

“I have to fly out today. I have a meeting tomorrow I need to be at, but when Amy goes down for her nap, we need to talk. I need to tell you why I’m here.”

She frowned as his words penetrated her sex-befuddled mind. “What do you mean why you’re here? I thought it was something to do with a golf course?”

“Actually…that was a lie.”

“I knew there was something not quite right about that. If a golf course was going to be built I would’ve known. Jeez, you can’t sneeze on this island without everybody knowing before you’ve even finished.” She narrowed her eyes. Something was definitely going on. She pushed him away, catching him off balance.

* * * *

The look of worry that crossed her features made Micah want to kick himself. He hadn’t meant to say anything, but damn it all to hell, he didn’t seem to have much control over anything when she was around, including speech. He was trained to take all kinds of torture and not say a word, and now he only had to look at her and he was like some dribbling teenager.

“Daisy, I’m–” Before he could get his words out the frantic tone of her voice stopped him.

“You’re from them, aren’t you?” She leaned over, lifted Amy up from her chair and wrapped her arms around the baby. “You can just go back and tell whoever it is you work for that I don’t have it…zilch…zitto, and even if I did, you wouldn’t get a dime from me.”

Come Away with Me (With Me in Seattle, #1)Come Away with Me by Kristen Proby

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Natalie Connor is doing one of her favorite things, sitting on the beach taking pictures in the quiet of a morning sunset. Her peace is shattered when a furious man confronts her on the beach wanting her camera, well if she is going to be mugged she couldn’t picture a more mouth watering mugger.

Former actor Luke Williams has spent the last five years dodging photo ops, he walked away after an incident rattled him to the core. Even know the stunning beauty has captured his interest he wants the pictures deleted, but when he realizes he made a mistake and she has no clue who he is, he wants to get to know her better.

The first in the With Me in Seattle series. So, I read the third one first and there are a few parallels in the male characters that I noticed right off. I liked this one a lot, it was more romantic in the sense that Luke wants to cherish Natalie. He does have a streak that is a bit jealousy/untrust but with Natalie he learns to curb his nerves on that matter. Natalie is a more react first type of gal which causes for a couple of wicked fights. I thought this was great, my guess is the series gets better as it progresses.

The Edge of Hope is the debut novel of writer Alina Popescu, the first book in the Bad Blood Trilogy, a story of vampires, love, struggles, and a constant fight for survival.

Edge of Hope (Bad Blood I)

Alexa skips the doubts and jumps right in, only to be thrown into the mysterious world of vampires.

The secrets of their origin and their very existence are far more important than her life to some of her new acquaintances. They are ancient, they are powerful, they have unlimited resources, and they are keen on controlling what the world knows of their kind. As Alexa discovers their complicated, blood feud bound world, she tries to better understand herself, heal old wounds and give love chance after chance. Will she survive the journey?

Excerpt:

I felt I should cry, but I just couldn’t. I was too angry…with him, with her, with everyone who liked the status, with Anthony and how he had changed my world. I couldn’t even see straight for a few minutes. When my vision cleared, I noticed a few messages in my inbox. The newest one was from him, apologizing for the public message and saying he never thought our common friends would be that stupid. It was so his style, minimizing what had happened and trying to find new targets for me to blame. There were other messages from some of the people who had liked their new relationship status saying they did not realize what they were doing at first, then they could not unlike it without hurting them. Bullshit. They were all assholes. The two of them for publicly posting the update. My so-called friends for not thinking carefully about it. Me for having believed whatever he had said in the car, even if hope had been buried somewhere deep down.

I took my car keys from the counter. The key card from his building was still there. He had made that especially for me a few weeks before the conversation in the car. He said it was over with her and had given it to me one morning, after a passionate night together, telling me he expected me to come over and spend the night a lot more often. It had meant the world to me and he had never asked me to give it back. I removed it from its ring and broke the plastic bar with my bare hands. I did not think I actually had the strength, but I did and it cut my hand a little. I kept looking at my blood as it dripped on the counter and hoped the pain I could no longer cry out would pour through that fresh wound.

That was when Louis walked in with a big, toothy grin on his face. “Hey, I am back and I bring delicious treats,” he beamed. He noticed my hand and the look on my face, and quickly dropped everything next to my computer.

“What’s wrong?” he asked, worry in his voice.

I opened my mouth to say something, but I just couldn’t.

“Alexa, was Anthony here? You have to tell me!” He grabbed my shoulders and shook me a little. I pushed him away and walked to the other side of the counter to lean against it. He came closer and took my hand.

“You cut yourself.” It was not a question. He could tell what kind of wound it was.

I really wanted to say it was nothing. Instead, I put my other hand around his neck, pulled him close, and kissed him. I expected nothing, in all honesty, other than cold rejection. I wasn’t really thinking, just acting on an impulse. But, for some reason, he kissed me back. When our tongues met, my knees gave out so I grabbed his shoulders with both my hands, bloodying his shirt.

He caught me in his arms and pulled me close, pressing me tightly against him. I was used to powerful reactions to kisses, but this was still off the charts. Vampire thing, I told myself. First line of baseborns. The one thought that was clear in my head was that I did not want that kiss to ever end. All the anger, hurt, and pain were gone, and this new situation with Louis seemed so raw, so pure. I felt his hand gliding down my thigh, then his fingers on the back of my knee. He hardly needed to do something for me to respond as he wanted me to so I put my leg around his hip. He never stopped kissing me, but somehow put my hands around his neck, took me in his arms and sat me on the kitchen counter, pushing his body closer to me.

I felt dizzy and mesmerized, and all I wanted was to keep feeling him. His tongue, his lips, his hands, his entire body. The moment I just left all thought behind and let my instinct take over, he brutally moved away.

“What the hell are you doing?!” he yelled, pacing around the kitchen and rubbing his forehead.

It took me a little while to try and gather my thoughts. But before I could say anything, a sudden rage got the better of me. What the hell did he mean by asking me what I had done? Wasn’t he doing it with me?

“Holding a vampire down and forcing my tongue down his throat!” I heard myself yelling back. “Oh, wait, that’s impossible!”

I could see the anger oozing through all his pores. His eyes were glassy and fear-inducing, his fangs were out and his body language spoke of a predator ready to jump on their pray. He started to say something, but I was faster. “Whatever it is, keep it to yourself, asshole!”

I jumped from the counter, pushed him away, and stormed out of the kitchen. I ran up the stairs, grabbed my gym bag, then got out of the house as fast as I could. I threw my bag in the car and started driving, fast and reckless, as if my life depended on getting to that gym. I got there in no time, changed in an instant, and started running on the treadmill. When it did not tire me enough, I moved to the elliptical bike and finally decided throwing punches at a big round bag filled with sand was way more refreshing.

Review

Alexa is on a path to reinventing herself.  After her long term relationship ended and shattered her confidence, she is quickly rebuilding it and taking time to write a paranormal novel about vampires.  Even though she has not written much, she has caught the attention of a magazine who wants to interview her.

When she meets Anthony, he is everything  a woman could want.  He charms her, he seduces her, and he talks her into moving into his home.  However, he doesn’t share that he is a vampire and she is just one of a long line of females he plans to feed from.

Having been burned one time too many, Alexa refuses to be his pawn.  When Louis, a member of the vampire council, comes to her aid she doesn’t know what to think.  The one thing she knows Louis can’t stand Anthony and he may just become her greatest ally.

The Edge of Hope is the geeks guide to paranormal.  If you are a facebook liker who follows quotes or enjoys geeking out with video games, this book is for you.  I loved Alexa, she is pure hellcat.  I liked the quirky trivia that flowed through the story and loved Louis.  Anthony, although a total jerk,  is pretty fascinating he has swagger that is for sure. I am anxious to read the next in the series, this book blew my mind.
