Elemental Desire, Book 1

Cat has one love in her life—science. Facts rule her, not passion. At least it doesn’t until an unknown deadly virus claims her sister’s life. Cat’s quest for answers takes her to Greenland and drops her into the arms of the one man who sways her devotion from logic to passion. Rune stirs her lusts, ignites her desires and fuels her carnal cravings, but he isn’t simply a lover, nor is he human. He’s a weapon, one that has the potential to save or destroy her.

Rune, a child of the mist, awakens into a world hovering on the verge of destruction. Rising temperatures have released his enemies from their frozen prison without his knowledge. He searches for them but finds Cat, a human with the power to save him and the world. He hungers for her—blood, body and soul. Every moment of shared passion convinces him of the truth—she’s his greatest treasure, one he’ll die to keep.

A Romantica® paranormal erotic romance from Ellora’s Cave

Excerpt

She’d noticed he only answered the questions she posed, nothing more. She supposed many people would be annoyed with him for it. Part of her was too. The rest of her appreciated the silence he offered. She had to admit, though, she was interested.

“What did you do in Iceland?”

He mapped her face before focusing on her eyes. “Security.”

She chuckled at the one word answer. Yesterday, she would’ve been content with it because really, did she need more than that? Despite her attraction to him, Rune was a stranger who would pass through her life. In a few days, she’d leave Greenland and him behind. Her curiosity demanded more, however. A few details would be nice to add to her memory of him.

“As a guard?”

He gave her a single nod.

“Of what?”

He skimmed his finger down her throat, but thankfully dropped his hand before she combusted from the simple touch. “Important people and their possessions.”

“And what do you do here in Upernavik?”

He took her hand and rubbed his thumb over her palm, heating her chilled skin. “The same, but you are my sole responsibility now.” His gaze locked to hers. “And you are the most valuable person I’ve ever been responsible for.”

Review

After seeing her sister die from a deadly virus that has no cure, Cat is on a mission to try and find a cure. Cat has no idea that the virus has more to do with things that go bump in the night, arriving in Greenland she finds herself attracted to a man named Rune. Cat is not one for relationships or distractions, but everything about Rune has Cat on edge and wanting something more.

Rune is a child of the mist who has awoken to save the world from destruction. One fateful moment has rune taking the first step in claiming Cat as his consort. Cat would be unlike any consort he has been with though, she would be only be his. With the world teetering Rune doesn’t need the distraction, but he is feeling the need to claim his mate who is unsure of what Rune actually is.

Intriguing story. I thought this was a fantastic read. Very different and you were able to visualize every moment in the story. I loved Rune, he is out of his element and doesn’t quite know how to handle Cat which leads to a very fun read. Highly entertaining.

Out in the Open
by J.B. Glazer

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Advertising executive Lexi Winters had a plan, but leaving her cheating fiancé, her beloved New York, and a successful career weren’t on her agenda. At twenty-seven she faces the harsh reality of starting over again. She returns to her hometown of Chicago and lands a new job, where she meets Jake Hartman, the agency founder’s captivating nephew. Their chemistry is undeniable, but Lexi is protective of her fragile heart and isn’t ready to date again. Jake is on the fast track to leading the company and has vowed to his uncle never to let anything—or anyone—get in his way. What begins as harmless flirtation soon crosses a line that threatens to destroy Lexi and Jake’s promising careers. In a relationship plagued by secrets, will they risk everything to be out in the open?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Excerpt:

Suddenly I’m so tired. I’m tired of being aloof and constantly not acting like myself so he won’t think I’m into him. I’m not bitchy by nature, and it’s exhausting. I feel myself relax in his arms. I think Jake senses it too, because he holds me tighter, and his touch is strong and reassuring. I’ve never been this close to him before. He’s intoxicating—a mix of something comforting and familiar with the promise of something new. His face is inches from mine, and it takes every fiber of my being not to pull him in for a kiss. As we dance, all my senses are heightened; I smell the distinctly earthy scent of his aftershave, feel the rise and fall of his chest with each breath, and practically touch the heat that emanates from his body. I listen to the music, and as the words wash over me, all I can think is how fitting the lyrics are. Yes, Jake. I know that it’s wrong, but still I run right into you.

“What’s this song?” Jake asks.

“‘Run’ by Matt Nathanson.”

“I like it,” he whispers in my ear.

I shiver, and he pulls me even closer, resting his cheek against mine. As the song ends, I reluctantly pull away, but Jake doesn’t let go of my hand. Instead he pulls me back toward him, and I feel vulnerable under his intense gaze, which is broken when my mom walks up to the podium and asks for everyone’s attention.

Interview

Topic: Cast Your Characters

As a writer, I’m always looking for my next book idea. I find that I do my best thinking at night once I get into bed and I can finally convince my husband to turn off the TV. I know I’m supposed to be winding down from the day, but as I toss and turn my mind starts racing. I think it’s because it’s the only time I’m truly relaxed—or at least I’m supposed to be. Lately it’s been challenging to find time to write, so while I should be drifting off to sleep I find it more productive to map out scenes in my mind. I think through narrative, dialogue, character names, and book titles. Inevitably my thoughts drift to my ultimate yet highly unattainable goal of being featured on The Today Show. During my interview with Matt Lauer I announce the big news: Paramount Pictures bought the rights to Out in the Open and it’s set to debut in theaters, Summer 2015.

In the event this should happen I’ve already envisioned which actors would play the characters. A girl has to be prepared! I also had a few in mind before I even put pen to paper. So when I was asked to write about casting my characters for this guest post, I was already well on my way. Here goes:

Jake Hartman: Lexi’s love interest

He was a no brainer for me. I have just a slight crush on Robert Pattinson. I first saw him in Water for Elephants and something about him captivated me. Aside from being adorable, he also seems genuine. When I thought up Jake’s character I channeled RP.

Ben: Lexi’s ex fiancé

With his shaggy dark hair and hazel eyes, the charming Adrian Grenier comes to mind.

Liv: Lexi’s best friend

I didn’t necessarily want to include her on this list. I intentionally never described Liv’s physical characteristics because I wanted my reader to envision her own best friend. But if I had to choose it would be the perky and likable Mandy Moore.

Nicole: Lexi’s closest friend at work

Amanda Seyfried. She’s friendly, approachable, and seems like the type of girl who would be in the know about the office gossip.

Ashley: AKA Barbie

Katie Cassidy. I loved her on Melrose Place and Gossip Girl. Tall, blonde, and gorgeous. Check. She could pull off an aloof air and easily be the girl we love to hate.

Simon: Lexi’s work husband

Bryan Batt. I always envisioned the slick Mad Men star as Lexi’s friend, confidante and creative director extraordinaire.

And last but not least, my protagonist, Lexi Winters

Cristin Milioti. I struggled with this one the most because if RP is playing Jake I think I’d make a fine Lexi. But there is no way I am slipping out of that coral dress and baring it for all to see. And I might just be a tad bit too old. So, if it can’t be me Christin is a fine choice. She is pretty in an attainable way and has a bubbly personality. I envision someone who has a magnetic quality about them because it’s important for her to be relatable and draw people in.

So there you have it—my all-star lineup. Hey, a girl can dream!

Jocelyn Timmons does not believe she is anything special — just an ordinary high school senior, living an ordinary life full of school-work, volleyball and friends. She’s about to find out how wrong she is.

Jaessenceckson Chandler moved in to the house across the street. His dark wavy hair, green eyes and charismatic personality draws everyone to him. Everyone, but Jocelyn.

Whenever Jackson gets near Jocelyn she feels ill and dizzy. When he touches her, she blacks out and has visions of another life, in another time. As the odd hallucinations evolve and become clearer, she feels a strong pull towards the people she sees there. Frightened, she watches her once stable life begin to crumble around her and she begins to question her own sanity.

Could it be possible that these episodes are actually her own memories of a life she is living somehow, somewhere, some-when? Maybe this is time-travel or some other paranormal mysticism? Our minds often wander, but can our souls?

Review

Jocelyn Timmons is your average teenager, she doesn’t think she is any different than anyone else. When her new neighbor, Jackson Chandler moves in Jocelyn is intrigued but her reaction to Jackson makes her uneasy.

Every time Jackson is near, Jocelyn is nauseous or fainting. It doesn’t even begin to explain the visions she has of herself and Jackson in a different era. The answer is not going to be simple, but the one thing Jocelyn knows is that Jackson is her soul mate.

Intriguing story. I was anxious to figure out Jocelyn’s reaction to Jackson, it was entrancing and frightening because you ware not sure who Jackson really is. This was a fresh story for me, completely unlike anything I have read before. Look forward to the next in the series.

Here Be Sexist Vampires (Deep In Your Veins, #1)Here Be Sexist Vampires by Suzanne Wright

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

When Sam Parker was turned into a vampire, she did not realize her life would take a dramatic turn. As a consort/assassin for the last three years for her vile maker, Sam just tries to get by on a daily basis looking for an out. That out comes in the form of a mind changing offer, try out for the Grand High Masters Vampire Army. It is a rare offer especially for a woman, but Sam’s gifts are unprecedented and would be a huge asset to the Army.

Of course when she meets Commander and heir to the Grand Master, Jarod, he makes his intent clear she is perfectly suited as a..consort and the sooner she comes to his bed the quicker she can go back to her life. Sam though has other ideas, including whipping his ass for his sexist behavior. The challenge is set and when Jarod is told Sam will not be his trainee rather his co-worker, all bets are off the temperamental vixen has Jarod determined to make her is, but she won’t settle to be treated as a piece of meat in his harem.

Absolutely one of the funnest vampire stories I have read in a long time, Sam is a kick in the pants and tough to boot. She completely keeps Jarod off guard and he struggles, boy does he struggle with his arrogant demeanor. Definitely reread worthy.

Not Enough (Parker Siblings, #1)Not Enough by Leigh Ann Lunsford

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Brielle Parker is used to carrying a quiet load when it comes to herself, she is always there for her family but she has never felt that she is worthy of happiness. Brielle blames herself for something that happened years ago and tore her family apart.

Colby James knows that Brielle is going to be an important part of his future. Brielle has walls that he plans to break through, but Brielle can be her own self destructive enemy. As secrets unfold and trust is questioned, will Colby and Brielle be able to weather the storm that is brewing around them.

The first book in the Parker sibling series. Very good story, was a bit angsty but you just didn’t have Brielle’s story, the siblings are actively part of the book. It took a few moments to soften to Brielle, she is a tough cookie but her history explains the way she is. Colby is a fantastic hero for this heroine. Look forward to more in the series.

Hollywood Ever After (Red Carpet, #1)Hollywood Ever After by Sasha Summers

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

It took one single moment for Claire to leave her abusive marriage, she had reasoned all the reasons she couldn’t leave, but never the reason she could. For her birthday Claire visits a friend in Los Angeles, for the first time in a long time she feels free, a new person ready to venture into the world. Not expecting to attend a big Hollywood premiere, Claire only takes a second for an embarrassing moment of crashing into Hollywood’s hottest new star Josh Wiley.

Josh is entranced by the woman in front of him, her carefree nature and ability to be honest about what she is thinking is refreshingly new. As one special night leaves them both finding something precious, they both venture into seeing what it might become, but Claire’s past has left her with some emotional scars and issues with trusting another, but Josh is not one to be deterred by the woman who has captured his body and soul.

I have always thought of a movie as a means of escape, to immerse myself totally into the scenery and characters, the unexpected surprises, laughter, and tears it contains, this story captures this essence well. I thought it was a magical story and cannot wait to read more from this talented author.

Dorianna by Catherine Stine Book Spotlight and Interview

30 Thursday Oct 2014

Posted by ehmusings in Book Spotlight, Interview

≈ 1 Comment

dorianna

Internet followers, beauty, power. It all sounded good.

Until it transformed into a terrifying reality Dorianna couldn’t stop.

When her father is jailed, her mother ships Dorianna to her aunt’s house. Dorianna yearns to build a new identity, but the popular Lacey bullies her—mostly for getting attention from her ex, Ander.

Ander takes Dorianna to Coney Island where Wilson, a videographer, creates a stunning compilation of her. She dreams of being an online sensation, tired of being plain and lonely, and vows she’d give anything to go viral. Wilson claims he’s the Prince of Darkness and offers her the beauty and fame she’s dreamed of—warning her that a pledge has its downsides.  Dorianna has no idea of how dire those consequences might be.

Interview

Where did you find inspiration for your story?

I love psychological horror, not the bloody, violent kind, but the creeping dread type. Two of my favorite novels are A Picture of Dorian Gray by Wilde and Dr. Faustus by Marlow. Dorian is really just a later version of Faust. In fact there have been many twists on this trope but all have had a male lead player. I wanted to write a version with a young woman. I wondered what a truly contemporary version would contain, and where else a female player might go with the trope. All of these twists are about our shadow sides—how we handle temptation and dark urges when no one’s watching. It’s also about the irony that what people are secretly attracted to can often be the same things they publicly condemn! It’s about our deep terrors as well, the ones involving the so-called sins of the day: promiscuous sex, arrogance, urges to follow our “bad angels” into nefarious activities.

Dorianna is about the dark side of the Internet and our cravings for more followers, more Likes and more popularity, which is a truly modern obsession. Where would it lead her to, if she had dark powers, yet lost all control of them?

Is there a particular vampire story or movie or both that is a favorite?

I’m more into witches right now than vamps. In fact, I’m working on a witch novel, set in 1932 in a New Jersey beach town called Beach Witch. Dorianna is set in Coney Island, Beach Witch in Asbury Park. Apparently, I’m really drawn to skeezy beach and boardwalk scenes. LOL. As far as witch stories go, when I was little I adored The Witch of Blackbird Pond. As an adult, I recently read The Winter Witch by Paula Brackston. Good stuff.

If you could cast your characters, who would be the leads?

Maybe Amanda Seyfried as Dorianna. She’s got the long, blonde hair and slightly spooky eyes, set rather far apart, yet she’s quite beautiful.

For Ander, Dorianna’s love interest, I’d cast Cody Linley, since he’s wholesome, athletic, yet can have a sort of dishonest look (Ander’s in love with two girls, and doesn’t play exactly fair)

For Wilson, maybe Chad Michael Murray because Wilson is a Prince of Darkness, and Chad has that brooding, dark magnetism.

When writing where do you draw inspiration from?

I like complicated characters, struggling with internal as well as external issues. I also like sexy, charming individuals who sometimes use that ability to get what they think they need (and then get their comeuppance). Always I work hard to evoke a true and raw heart and an emotional core. I love magic too! I get inspiration from anything containing these elements: from reality, TV, films, and books—always good books.

Any writing quirks you care to share?

I rarely write in the morning. My best writing time is between 3 and 7:30 pm. I need quiet, and so I don’t listen to music when I write. Yet, I belong to a writing space and the sound of other people typing doesn’t bother me at all. In fact, it spurs me on.

With Everything I Am (The Three, #2)With Everything I Am by Kristen Ashley

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Callum knew there was something special about the girl he finds in the woods. Her bravery trying to protect him as a wolf radiates, but his need to protect her is intense. Realizing she is his mate has him biding his time until she is ready.

As a human, Sonia Arlington knows she is different. She senses things, has outstanding hearing, and other gifts that she keeps well hidden from others. Everything about her life is structured and overseen by her guardian and his son, but that is all about to shift when an attack in her home leaves her rescued by Callum, a man claiming she is his mate.

Callum tries his patience with courting Sonia, as she is human. His wolf wants to claim, mate, and move on but the more he gets to know Sonia the more intrigued he becomes. He has a way of getting under her skin and she is able to interact with him no way a human should. The one thing he did not know about his mate though, is she is sick and there is no permanent treatment for her. He wants to give Sonia everything and make her short life as wonderful as he can, but trying to do so is met with hurdles especially when it comes to learning to communicate with Sonia.

Loved, loved, loved. This was a powerful story, it actually brought out some tears I was so heavily invested in Sonia and Callum. Callum is bossy, big time and he is swift with his orders. Sonia is used to being independent and that Callum doesn’t seek her opinion ruffles her feathers frequently. I liked that the friction was there and you were dealing with two different lifestyles trying to mesh.

In Bed with a Highlander (McCabe Trilogy, #1)In Bed with a Highlander by Maya Banks

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

As the illegitimate daughter of the king, Mairin Stuart new one day she would marry, but she wanted it on her terms. With marriage Mairin holds a large dowry as well as a prominent piece of land, making her a target for those who would rather use her for the power they would gain then treat her as a proper wife.

An abduction from the abbey where Mairin has been hiding thrusts her into protecting a young lad who is lost. Wanting to escape from her abductor who plans to force her to wed, sets Mairin on a journey that sends her to Laird Ewan McCabe whose son she has valiantly protected by her side, taking the brunt of the misuse they received. Ewan sees Mairin as a gift to his struggling clan, he sparks a deal with her, his protection for her hand in marriage, while she reluctantly agrees Ewan has no idea his wife is not only tempting but she is a spitfire who has her own ideas about things and doesn’t seem to want to back down when it comes to going head to head with Ewan.

Delicious. Mairin is a fireball and has a tendency to react often frustrating her husband Ewan who only wants her happiness, but also believes if she would just follow her orders things would be simpler. Of course he secretly enjoys her antics, he finds himself doing the one thing he vowed he would never do, fall in love. Always guaranteed enjoyment reading a Maya Banks book, absolutely one of her best hands down!

About the Author

Picture1[1]
My name is Delisa Lynn, I grew up in Columbus Ohio. I’m currently residing in Western New York, where I work as a Medical Assistant. I love music, all generations, I do have a soft spot for country and 80’s hair bands. My favorite season is fall, I love the weather that time of the year, watching the leaves change and most of all being able to watch football. Go Bucks!! I am also a 49ers fan and New York Yankees fan. My favorite color is pink, not baby pink hot pink. I’m married to my high school sweetheart, we’ve been together going on nineteen years, sometimes I can’t stand him but I wouldn’t trade him for the world. I love you Jay. Our baby is a five year old spoiled Yorki named Sophie and yes she thinks she is human.
I’ve always had a passion for reading and writing. I have very vivid imagination and have always felt I should express it in writing. But I took a different career path, I worked in retail photography for sixteen years. Then I chose to work in the medical field. Last year, I decided I was going to follow my dream and write a novel. I never imagined it would turn into a series with eight books. I’m so glad it did, because I love it. When I’m not writing you can find me snuggled with my hubby watching a movie, or cuddled in the corner of the couch with my fur baby reading.
         I hope you all enjoy reading my books as much as I did writing them.
