The Inspector’s Daughter and The Maid is a moving and delightful blend of historical and speculative romance fiction.

The foundations of traditional structures reveal themselves to be no longer stone, but sand, and in the hearts of the Inspector’s Daughter and the Maid some natural ease gets broken, and their trust in a promising future loses its innocence.

In the severance of winds, beyond their wildest dreams, possibilities are awakened.

Which one will win the heart of the wealthy merchant’s son – the Music Teacher?

Excerpt

It’s the city of Delft, the capital of the Dutch Republic, sometime in the mid-17th century. Nowhere in Delft is far from water. It’s a small city of canals, overflowing with humanity that ripples over a few acres and out the city gates into the low-lying farmland and to Oospoort, the city’s opening to the North Sea and to the world. To place it, a brisk morning’s walk will get you north to Hague, the centre of the Netherland’s government and courts. It’s a carriage ride to Amsterdam. The Reformation and a changed Christian practice may have been the instigator. But the foundations of traditional structures, of not only religion, but consequently, also of community and family, revealed themselves to be no longer stone, but sand. If this crumbling and the confusion it caused wasn’t happening, the Inspector’s Daughter and the Maid’s story may never have been told. The society, however, was not infrangible, and these juffrouwen were ripe. The social changes that were birthing, sprung from mindfulness towards humanity. Small incremental steps. No giant leaps. That’s what was best for the greater good. Seeds that consequence stories can be planted by previous generations, and, indeed, such is the case here. The mother of one of the girls was the progenitor. Thus, the story begins with he r.

Review: Pieces of Me by Bijou Hunter

Pieces of Me (Steel Berserkers MC Book 1)Pieces of Me by Bijou Hunter
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Years ago the Steel Berserkers MC made their name in a way that put fear in everyone in McMurdo Valley. Hoyt Macready, president of the Steel Berserkers, has maintained his reputation as well as ran for Mayor. He has gone through assistants faster then he could hire him, it does not help that him. A joint ownership at the Gin Mill has his partner Patrice offering a solution. Her granddaughter Selene Norris needs a job to get on her own feet, she warns Hoyt to keep it business and business only but when Hoyt meets Selene he knows that ship will sail. Selene is a beauty he has never seen but she is skittish to boot and he knows he needs to earn her trust. Selene though believes she is on borrowed time and even though she would love Hoyt to be the hero in her warped fairy tale can she trust it to be true?

This was fantastic. Heartbreaking and you want to pummel some people for their part in Selene and her Sisters journey. Hoyt is alpha male as well as a bit berserker, you don’t mess with him but with Selene he tries so hard to be patient. Definitely will read more of this series and the snippet at the end of the book already has me waiting for the next book.

The Reading ListThe Reading List by Sara Nisha Adams
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Widower Mukesh misses his wife, upon reflection he realizes that he missed a lot of time with her. Life happened of course but when he finds a book that his wife borrowed from the library he decides to read it. His wife loved books but Mukesh never took the time to see what she enjoyed. Deciding to read it, he is blown away with the story and feels close to his wife again. Despite his hesitation, Mukesh decides to go to the library. He has no idea what to do at the library and the library assistant is less then helpful.

Aleisha has a bad attitude, her home life is stressful and she is working in a library and has no knowledge about books. When Mukesh seeks help, she is not a willing helper but upon reflection Aleisha realizes she was wrong in her behavior. Aleisha fixes it an finds a bond with Mukesh. Two different walks of life come together in an unexpected way. A list plays a part in Aleisha and Mukesh leaning on one another and forming a friendship that neither would have thought possible.

This was delightful. It is sad and heartbreaking in parts, but then in others it is uplifting and full of joy. I really enjoyed Mukesh, what a wonderful character. Would definitely read more from this author.

Self-Help/Spiritual

Date Published: 8.28.2022

Publisher: Help from 100X Publishing

This is my story of how I went from fighting for the love, belonging, and acceptance my heart yearned for in finding my place in this world, to laying down my sword and allowing God’s love to find me.

About the Author

Angela Yarborough has a passion to see women set free from the lies of their pasts and begin living in the love and freedom of Christ. Having accomplished this in her own life, she regularly speaks to women and gives them hope for a love story of their own.

Combining her business knowledge, creative gifting, and love for the women she is called to serve, Angela has built an online jewelry business that employs women coming from the prison system or sex trade industry. AmadeaDesigns.com equips women with the skills they need to obtain a long-term job that fits their God-given talents.

Living in a small town in North Louisiana with her husband, Jerry, along with their last 2 kids at home, daily adventures in nature bring a smile to her face. Picnics by the lake, kayaking on the river, and playing with her pet goats and sassy chickens are just a few things you might find Angela doing when she is not designing jewelry, writing books, or ministering to women.

Review: Agony’s Medicine Woman by Ciara St. James

Agony's Medicine Woman (Pagan Souls of Cherokee MC Book 1)Agony’s Medicine Woman by Ciara St James2
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Agony finds out that his Grandmother, who he holds on a pedestal is being duped by a woman who is giving her salves and making her believe that she is getting better. What Agony fails to realize is that she is giving natural creams to help with the inflammation but she doesn’t as for anything in return. Agony wants Eliana, but he has made a hot mess with her after his accusation and basically telling her to get the hell out of his town. Now Agony wants a second chance, but Eliana is getting out of Cherokee. Can Agony convince Eliana to give his a chance?

I enjoyed this quite a bit. Liked that Eliana was a woman who puts Agony in his place. I think this will be an exciting series to follow. Definitely had my interest peaked by several of the characters in the Pagan Souls of Cherokee Chapter. Another great read by this author.

True Story, Nonfiction

photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png

She grew up thinking she deserved neglect. Can a young girl escape a loveless home to seize elusive peace?

Abused and neglected as a child, Maria’s story is one of survival on the rawest levels. It is a story of tragedy and the strength of the human spirit. Maria turned to faith and her grandmother’s unconditional love to see her through the dark times in rural Portugal. Grandma died when Maria was 8 and she was forced to live with a mother who had abandoned her as a baby. She suffered years of mental and physical abuse at the hands of her mother who deprived her of food and forced her to leave school at the age of 11 so she could go to work. At her job, the child was continuously raped by her boss and made into a sex slave. At 18, she escaped to Canada where she found a safe new home with her aunt Licinia…or so she thought. Licinia’s household had its own toxic dynamic. Her husband, Roberto, turned out to be just as predatory as Maria’s boss.

 About the Author

Maria Trautman can usually be found reading a book, and that book will more likely than not be a Historical Romance or a Psychological Thriller. She wrote After All…in order to help her and others, come to terms with a horrendous childhood and young adulthood. Maria gives thanks every single day, for the blessings that have been bestowed upon her.

photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png

In this sizzling opposites-attract Regency romance by Charlie Lane, a lady of passion and an earl of logic commit to a fake courtship as rakish as it is daring.

Lady Edith knows the sting of unrequited love, and now she wants only one thing—to marry a man who desires her or to never marry. But at the Season’s end, her father threatens to provide a husband if she cannot secure one herself. When a family friend saves her from the unwanted advances of one of their suitors, she falls a little bit in love. With his auburn hair and radical ideas about women, Griffin Paxton, the Earl of Eastern, is perfect. Except he doesn’t want her back.

Griffin will not be distracted by Lady Edith’s diamond-eyed beauty. He needs a wife to fulfill his dying father’s wish, and he needs her to be a model of propriety to repair the family reputation his rakish father sullied. When Lady Edith calls herself a rake, he knows she’ll never do. He’ll have to guard his attraction to her fiery spirit and open heart behind thick ice walls and look elsewhere.

But when Edith suggests they forge a fake engagement to appease both their fathers, Griffin can’t refuse. She needs his help, and he never ignores a damsel in distress. Will a fake courtship bring out their rakish desires, or will it offer a home to two hurting hearts?

About the Author

Charlie Lane traded in academic databases and scholarly journals for writing steamy Regency romcoms like the ones she’s always loved to read. Her favorite authors are Jane Austen (who else?), Toni Morrison, William Blake, Julia Quinn, and Maya Rodale.

Charlie writes unique stories with unconventional characters who push against the rigid restrictions of their society. Officially, Charlie has a Ph.D. in literature with a focus on the nineteenth-century novel and children’s literature and answers to Professor. Unofficially, she’s a high-flying circus-obsessed acrobat, with an emphasis on two-tail silks and answers to Muscles Magee. She lives with her own Colonel Brandon, two little dudes, and a furry fella in East Tennessee.

Review: Strange & Unusual by Lani Lynn Vale

Strange & Unusual (Battle Crows MC, #6)Strange & Unusual by Lani Lynn Vale
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Jeremiah knew one thing after divorcing his ex-wife, he would never remarry again. He did not plan to fall for another woman but when he met Gracelyn at a party the Battle Crows were hosting. Gracelyn was not out to talk or party with anyone, she was there to read he book and eat her food. From that moment Jeremiah was hooked. He tried his best to stay away, but she was easy to hang out with and while he normally liked quiet, he wanted to know everything about her. Can a man who has vowed to keep his heart hardened take a chance on the woman who is melting it?

Talk about surprises, this book is full of them. I really enjoyed this one. Gracie had a tough life but she is a fighter through and through. Jeremiah you met in other books and he was even better then I hoped. Terrific chemistry, entertaining story and I couldn’t put this one down.
