Witch Unexpected
Debbie Cassidy
(The Thirteenth Sign #1)
Publication date: December 29th 2020
Genres: Adult, Romance, Urban Fantasy

An ancient war, a tenuous truce, a delicate balance.

Sounds ominous right?

It is.

The tri-pack collective has existed for centuries—three dire wolf packs bound to the most powerful coven in the world through a single witch born under the thirteenth sign of the zodiac.

Through this covenant they keep an ancient threat unlike any other at bay.

At the next blood moon, I’ll be that witch—bound to the three leaders of the dire wolf packs. Responsible for keeping the peace.

That is If I make it to the blood moon alive, because someone is trying to kill me.

Now the hot-headed wolves are going to have to work together to make sure our inventive little murderer doesn’t succeed.

And me?

Well, I don’t take kindly to being targeted, so whoever’s gunning for me better watch out, because they just became the hunted.

An Urban Fantasy Romance filled with witches, shifters, warlocks, Gargoyles, Ghosts and Vampires.

Author Bio:

Debbie Cassidy lives in England, Bedfordshire, with her three kids and very supportive husband. Coffee and chocolate biscuits are her writing fuels of choice, and she is still working on getting that perfect tower of solitude built in her back garden. Obsessed with building new worlds and reading about them, she spends her spare time daydreaming and conversing with the characters in her head – in a totally non psychotic way of course. She writes Urban Fantasy, Fantasy and Reverse Harem Fantasy. All her books contain plenty of action, romance and twisty plots.

Book Club: Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

A couple of years ago my family and I decided to start a book club. The book club consists of six members and we all have a difference in opinion on our go too books and wanted to read outside our comfort zone. With each book we read we have a get together where we have a cook off of sorts with a theme inspired from the book we are reading.

Daisy Jones & The SixDaisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Daisy Jones is the IT girl for the moment in the late sixties into the seventies. She is a woman who is a free spirit and has flings with rockstars and parties like there will be no tomorrow. Billy Dunne is the lead singer of The Six, a band that is on the cusp of becoming famous. He is ready to take the next step in his career but there is a woman, Camila that he wants by his side. This is the story of how two opposites get pulled together to team a band and an up and coming singer. Billy doesn’t like Daisy, Daisy doesn’t know what she did to garner Billy’s hostility. With all the friction and the band dynamics can they work together?

This is told in interview form and about the rise and fall of Daisy Jones and the Six. There is so much to the story going on with the spiraling Daisy who wants to sing, wants to write and is stifled for her effort. Billy who has a wife with a child on the way and is in destruction mode. The band who some are content with what they are doing while others are getting ticked at other members in the band. I thought the story was fascinating and midway through I was worried about how it would unfold because I had my favorite characters and my not so favorites and was worried that would flip toward the end. The end was a complete surprise, loved every moment of this book.

For September we chose Daisy Jones and the Six and paired it with diner breakfast food. Due to CoVid I printed out the menu (shown above) of what everyone made, wore my apron and plated up everyone’s breakfast. We had Creamed Eggs on Toast, Huevos Rancheros Casserole, two types of quiche, bacon and home fried hashbrowns. and OJ. Everything was delicious.

We went ahead and did the cuckoos calling since most of us had read it already, new schedule below.

October The Mercies by Kiran Milwood Hargrave -theme Norwegian food

November Old Bones by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child – Campfire Food

December The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris – Sovlakian Food

January Vacationland: True Stories From Painful Beaches by John Hodgman – Recipes from Maine

February The Disappearing Spoon: And Other True Tales of Madness, Love, and the History of the World from the Periodic Table of the Elements by Sam Keen – Spoon bite foods

A couple of years ago my family and I decided to start a book club. The book club consists of six members and we all have a difference in opinion on our go too books and wanted to read outside our comfort zone. With each book we read we have a get together where we have a cook off of sorts with a theme inspired from the book we are reading.

This month our book was Kindred by Octavia E. Butler we decided on a retro theme since the book had time travel in it. We made burgers on the grill and we had tater tots, onion rings, and crinkle fries to go with it. I picked up the little red baskets and got wax paper to line it with. We also had Root Beer Floats and to top the day off Ice Cream Sundaes.

Not all of us were able to read this one as we are borrowing from the library and some have had it reserved for months to no avail. I was able to get an audiobook for it (review coming soon) but those who did read liked the book overall.

September book is Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid – theme Dive Bar Food

October The Cuckoos Calling by Robert Galbraith and JK Rowling -Mystery Food Ingredient

November The Meries by Kiran Milwood Hargrave -theme Norwegian food

December Old Bones by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child – Campfire Food

January The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris – Sovlakian Food

February Vacationland: True Stories From Painful Beaches by John Hodgman – Recipes from Maine

Book Club- The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert

A couple of years ago my family and I decided to start a book club. The book club consists of six members and we all have a difference in opinion on our go too books and wanted to read outside our comfort zone. With each book we read we have a get together where we have a cook off of sorts with a theme inspired from the book we are reading. The Hazel Wood was one of our most recent books and we did a fairy tale theme menu. We didn’t divulge what fairy tale we were making which made it fun to guess what it was.

I made this black forest cake for Snow White and my niece did this swirl bread for Hansel and Gretal. More often then not the food is good, there have been a few hit and misses though.

Our next book is Kindred by Octavius Butler Our theme is updated twists on classic food since it is a book that has time traveling in it. We hope to meet in August to discuss this one.

September book is Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid – theme Dive Bar Food

October The Cuckoos Calling by Robert Galbraith and JK Rowling -theme to be determined

November The Meries by Kiran Milwood Hargrave -theme Norwegian food

December Old Bones by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child – Theme to be determined

January The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris

If you would like to join in discussion will have a post each month focusing on these titles. If you want to participate in the cooking challenge, post your pictures this is a fun twist for book clubs.
