inHer Beasts of Burden by Dixie Lynn Dwyer
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Sam is doing her best to not fall into the patterns her sister and mother have. She doesn’t want to be in an abusive relationship nor does she want to have a man who cheats on her. Her ex did both and she is planning to begin her life elsewhere when she has the funds.
Reeves, Tiny, Big John, and Flint are interested in Sam and think she maybe the one they have been waiting for. However Sam keeps herself tightly wrapped up with aspects of her life, can they break through the walls she has surrounded herself with to build a future together?
This had moments that were really good but I had a problem with Sams sister and her sons plot and I couldn’t really get past that. Overall the characters were intriguing and definitely has promises for the next book.

inEye of the Colossus
Nicole Grotepas
Publication date: April 19th 2018
Genres: Adult, Science Fiction, Steampunk
The City of Jade Spires, the biggest in the 6-moons, is a breathtaking symbol of hope and unity for the four races. But it’s also a hub of corruption. Holly Drake is proof of that. Fresh out of prison for a mistake framed to look like cold murder, she’s broke, jobless, and branded with a prison record.
When she lands a gig stealing back the Eye of the Colossus jewels, the chance for a big payout means she won’t have to depend on anyone else. She’s never had that kind of freedom. She’ll do it. Even if the work is only a shade lighter than outright crime.
But soon she finds herself pursued by thugs from the Shadow Coalition, an underworld government that wants her dead. Pulling off the heist without getting killed means putting trust in recruits she hardly knows. The clock is ticking to get the jewels, but a mistake now could be fatal. Chasing across the 6-moons to complete the job will test her grit and determination to succeed when everything is stacked against her. More than that, finding out just what secrets the 6-moons hold will either turn her into the hero the moon system needs, or destroy her…
Author Bio:
I’m passionate about human rights, animal rights, and living life with no regrets. I love how becoming a parent has deepened my devotion to making the world a better place. I do that best by crafting stories that attempt to answer hard questions–the ones I think about most–while also being entertaining and fun. I live in a landscape that reminds me of my place in the universe, under an endless sky and towering mountains that are older than human memory, and I love it here.

1871 – Born to privilege and duty in Virginia, Olivia Gentry comes of age as women begin to find their social and political independence. She has been raised and educated to carry on the Gentry family’s successful horse breeding stables with her brothers at Paradise, their family home. Having been deceived in love as a young woman and unsure of her instincts, she is wary to commit to a marriage, but she cannot deny her long-buried feelings for a family friend.
Jim Somerset has been in love with Olivia Gentry from the moment she gazed up at him as a young girl. A farrier by trade like his father before him, he and his business’s future are inexorably entwined with the Gentry family. He has watched her be courted by statesmen, and considers her and her goals out of the reach of a common workman, like himself. But he is fearful that he will never rid Olivia from his mind and from his heart. Has the moment come for him to reveal his passions for her? Find out in the third installment of the Gentrys of Paradise.
Enjoy an Excerpt:
Twilight had descended, though, and she wasn’t walking into the woods, where tree cover had already made it dark. But Olivia was heading toward the woods, where she could skirt the cool edges, away from the crowds until her breathing and sense were restored. She noticed two things as she walked. The sound of human voices had dimmed, and Jim Somerset was standing directly ahead of her.
“Of all people,” she said softly.
He pushed off the tree he was leaning against and walked toward her. He didn’t stop until he was standing close to her.
“Are you engaged to him?”
She shook her head. “No.”
“What did that kiss mean?” he blurted out.
“I didn’t kiss him,” she said and looked so forlorn, so lost, that he wanted to gather her in his arms like he would a sister or brother who’d skinned a knee. But that wasn’t quite true, or even true a small amount, because he wanted to ease her to the ground and cover her body with his. He wanted to touch her face and hair. He wanted to put his lips on hers.
“At the creek when you kissed me,” he clarified.
She was silent for so long he wondered if she’d heard him or was ever going to answer if she had heard him. He was staring at her, waiting, when the tears began to roll down her cheeks and drop off her chin. The muscles in his chest contorted and twisted as he watched each tear fall. He had to force himself to breathe. Her hurt, her pain, was constricting his heart’s ability to beat and his lungs’ capacity to draw air and he understood at that moment with some clarity what poets meant by heartbreak.

Salvador Rosas spent his time in jail and now he is back. He is trying to live life on the straight and narrow but it is hard with his gang East Side Hollenback at the door. He has been working two jobs and saving money for a place but when life hits a snag he finds himself renting a room from an unexpected source. However it also puts him in the path of single mom Vanessa Valesco. Her hot temper has Salvador wishing he had a chance with her, maybe he does but will his past ruin everything?
This was not what I expected it was better. I thought Salvador’s story was realistic and thought he was doing the best he could under the way he was raised. Vanessa is a firecracker, I liked that she was tough as nails and that she could see past Salvador’s past even if it took a little bit to realize it. Great read, look forward to more in the series.

FULL REVIEW
Charlie Taylor-Mackilligan is the protector over her two sisters. She has had to be, thanks to her cursed father. Her sisters can take care of themselves but together three of them are a force to be reckoned with and unstoppable. When she lands on a balcony after being attacked she gets assistance from Berg Dunn a grizzly shifter, it is short, bloody, and sweet but Berg can’t get Charlie out of his mind.
Back home Berg finds himself in front of Charlie again. Realizing her family needs help he steps in because he knows he wants a date with Charlie. How do you date a woman who believes she is cursed? Simple stay by her side and get under her skin without her realizing it.
I have been waiting for this book for awhile and cleared my calendar so I could just savor all the goodness that this book brought. One of the best so far and you get little cameos from some of your favorite characters from other books. Loved Berg, he is relaxed and lets Charlie do her thing. The sisters are a hoot. Several surprises and I cannot wait for more more more.
EXCERPT REVIEW I was able to read the first chapter of this new series by Shelly Laurenston and what a treat it was. Berg Dunn is Cooper’s bodyguard when a woman enters their hotel room and with her is a trouble of another nature.
If you have read the author’s other books you remember Cooper. I cannot wait to read this in full. The first chapter hooked me and although I spent a ton of time clicking for next chapter, it didn’t happen. I can’t wait to get to know honey badger Charlie Taylor-MacKilligan. This is going to be fantastic.

Katrina Vega is focused on finishing college, she has worked hard to get where she is and now is seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. A new job helps get her closer to that goal. Working the bar she realizes that the men of the Dragon Runners MC is more like family and that there is one man who stands out more than the rest, Alec “Mute” Stillwater. He is gruff with Katrina but there is an unspoken bond that is forming between them even if she can’t understand exactly what it is. When an old enemy comes back into Mute’s life though his need to protect Katrina becomes even more dire, can he save her before it is too late?
This was fascinating because Mute doesn’t talk so all of his actions are through expressions. I liked this one quite a bit and eager to see who is next in the story. Had a bit of angst but it worked for me. Great beginning to a new series.
